About Legacy 12

Built so that recovery support is something a community can plan around.

Brief history

Founded in 2023, Legacy 12 Foundation was established to give recovery communities something they rarely have: support they can plan around. Recovery work is often funded in short bursts, which forces the people doing it to spend energy on survival rather than on the community in front of them.

The foundation was built on a straightforward conviction, that recovery is sustained by community, and community is sustained by resources. From the beginning it has been structured around transparent giving and long-term stewardship rather than one-off contributions, so that the help offered this year is still there next year.

What we do

Fundraising & Grants

We raise funds from individual donors, sponsors and partner organizations, then distribute them as grants to the programs doing recovery work directly. Every grant is weighed against a single question: will this make recovery more sustainable for the community it serves?

Educational Support

We fund the learning that keeps recovery moving forward, from training and certification for people working in recovery services to educational costs for individuals rebuilding their lives. Education is what turns a period of recovery into a durable next chapter.

Financial Stewardship

We treat every contribution as a responsibility. Funds are tracked, allocated and reported with the discipline donors are entitled to expect, so that giving to Legacy 12 is a decision a donor can defend, repeat and recommend.

Our impact

What we will measure, and what we will publish.

Legacy 12 Foundation is early in its work, and we would rather publish nothing than publish a figure we cannot stand behind. Our reporting framework is being built now, and the measures below are the ones we have committed to tracking and publishing as the record accumulates.

We will report total funds granted and the programs receiving them; the number of individuals supported through education, training and certification; the share of every dollar that reaches program work rather than overhead; the count of sponsors and partner organizations contributing each year; and the multi-year retention of the programs we fund, because a grant that keeps a service open for three years matters far more than one that keeps it open for three months. Each figure will be dated, sourced and updated on this page as it is verified.

Share reaching program work

Tracking growth over time

The proportion of every contribution that reaches program work rather than administration.

In their words

The grant did not just cover a bill. It meant we could tell the people in our program that we would still be here in six months, and mean it. That kind of certainty is what recovery actually runs on.
